The
Florida High School Athletic Association, forerunner of the Florida High
School Activities Association, was founded in 1920 by a group of 29 high
school principals meeting on the University of Florida campus in Gainesville.
These schools became charter members of the association. The first Constitution
limited membership to public schools. However, in 1930, it was amended to
open membership to private and parochial schools as well.
In 1951, the member schools voted to change the word "athletic" to "activities"
in the organization name so that non-athletic activities such as music and
student council programs would also receive proper supervision at the state
level.
The Association was incorporated in 1962.
The FHSAA, in 1996, adopted regulations permitting students enrolled in
home education programs to participate in interscholastic activities.
In May 1997, the Florida Legislature recognized in statute the FHSAA as
the governing body for interscholastic athletics in Florida, provided the
Association comply with the provisions of a legislatively mandated revamping
of its governmental structure. The FHSAA currently is in the process of
making the necessary changes to comply with the new law.
The FHSAA has shown a steady growth throughout its 83-year history. Currently,
the FHSAA has a membership of approximately 670 schools. |

Welcome to LHS Volleyball

Our Lady Dreadnaught Volleyball Team had
a very successful 2010 season. We finished with a winning 24-6 record and
made it to the Final Four State Tournament. It was a wonderful journey that
the 2011 Dreadnaughts hope to repeat. The Dreadnaughts pride themselves
on being hard workers and displaying a love and passion for the sport of
volleyball. We define our success by the constant improvement of our program
and the desire to give and sacrifice for our team on a daily basis. The
coaching staff feels so blessed to have such determined and motivated athletes
in our program. We have a remarkable group of young ladies returning this
2011 volleyball season and we are all tremendously thrilled about the many
opportunities for their individual and team achievement. If greatness was
easy to attain, everyone would do it. We have dreams for our court; we welcome
2011.

LAKELAND | George Jenkins and Lakeland both came in undefeated in three
previous matches from two separate pools and squared off in the 4th Annual
Lakeland Invitational Gold Championship Saturday afternoon.
The Dreadnaughts
reigned supreme in a closely contested match 25-23, 27-25.
Lakeland coach
Crystal Ramsey praised her team's hard work and sweat in the best out of
three matches. "We work very hard to put into play what we do in practice,"
Ramsey said. "We try hard to prepare for our opponents and execute our game
plan. I think my team executed its game plan."

LAKELAND | George Jenkins figured out how to stop Lakeland hitter Kali
Boatwright, so the Dreadnaughts adjusted. The plan — have setter Alex Taylor
dish the ball out to other hitters.
It worked and Lakeland notched another
win over its cross-town rival, 25-23, 22-25, 25-12, 25-15, Thursday night.
It's the second time this season the Dreadnaughts have defeated the Eagles
- and this one, just like the first district match-up, was a battle, especially
early.

Anytime a team embraces Vince Lombardi's philosophy it's a strong sign
that team means business.
"Lombardi is my favorite," Lakeland Dreadnaughts
volleyball head coach Crystal Ramsey said. "Our shirts say ‘To succeed in
anything you must give everything.
'" And since actions speak louder than
words, no one will accuse Ramsey of printing the NFL Hall of Fame coach's
words across their clothes just to get attention or sell an image her volleyball
team isn't portraying. The record shows the Dreadnaughts keep climbing a
step closer to a state title each year, capping last season's efforts with
a Class 5A Final Four appearance.
